Family For the Family

A Prayer for Protection & Purity Over Our Children this School Year

As we send our children back into their schools this fall, many of us wonder how to prepare them well for all they will encounter in the classroom and with friends. Moms and dads have one secret weapon that can cover them with protection like nothing else... Prayer! Here is a prayer especially for this season written just for your family!Heavenly Father,

You are a good Father who loves us unconditionally. You love us even more than we love our own children. You hold the world in the palm of your hands and you have shown us the right way to live. We have the awesome privilege of coming to you in prayer, not because of how great we are or anything that we have done, but because of who You are.

As our children wake up each morning and get dressed for their day of school, give them the grace they will need to face the temptations, trials, and struggles that may come their way this year. Help us as parents to prepare them for the battle that is out there but that is most importantly raging in their own hearts, for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood but of against the darkness and spiritual forces of evil (Eph 6:12).

Help us to remind our children to put on their armor every day before heading out the door. Protect their hearts, minds, ears, eyes, and lips from the delicacies that look desirable on the outside, but will bite them in the end and bring pain and destruction. When they see wrong, help them to stand up for truth and to be a beacon of light, even when everyone around them is giving in to what seems best in their own eyes.

Teach them humility, to love their friends as they would love themselves. To love others who look and act differently and to be children who will advocate for their friends and classmates who are looked down upon and treated unfairly. Give them the courage to be brave and to be willing to do your will whatever it takes, even if they are the only one.

When we fear for our children’s safety and for their very own hearts, help us to trust in you and hand them over to you each day. You know their needs better than we do. You know what they need when we can’t be physically near them. You are sovereign and in control of their very lives – for you created them and fashioned them for your purposes and plans.

When we worry and fret about all the details in their daily grind – school work, friends, peer pressure, screen time, sports, nutrition, tests, reading, health and more, help us to surrender our control to you and give us the peace we need to know that everything will be okay.

We confess that we need you – in times of plenty and in times of want. We are dependant on you for our life and very breath. There is nothing we can do apart from you. Thank you that you care for us and seek us out, even when we are unlovable and running far from you in the deceitfulness of sin.

Thank you that you love our children deeply. Bless them this school year in a way that makes them prosperous and healthy in their souls and overflows into the lives of their friends, teachers, coaches, and other authority you have placed over them. Teach them to be grateful for those people who invest in their lives each day.

And may we never forget the power that is in prayer. It is You who we boldly seek, reach out to, and talk to because we know you hear our concerns. Please revive our families, schools, and nation because we need it badly. Open our eyes to see your truth, love, and grace so that your gospel will be proclaimed and lives will be transformed. May revival begin first in our hearts and homes.

Thank you for your great love. It is in Jesus’ name we pray,

Amen

“Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.” – 1 Tim 4:12, NLT
