A Prayer for When Your Family is Being Stretched

Is your family being stretched? While it is never easy, it is a necessary part of our christian journey, where God often does the most heart work. Here is a prayer to help you through hard, stretching seasons and encourage you as you journey with God.

The last few weeks have been a blur for us. First we had a situation where Michael was injured badly during an early morning basketball game that resulted in a severed Patellar ligament. With dad down chaos began to ensure in our little family of five. And before we knew it, he was scheduled for knee surgery that has a full recovery time of one year or more. While we were adjusting to one man down around here, the morning before surgery, all three children came down with a nasty bug. Carlie was worn thin trying to care for us all, run our businesses, homeschool the children, grocery shop, and get rest. And the thing is, we are currently not near family and friends due to our military moves.

Our family is being stretched.

Can you relate?

While being stretched isn’t fun, it is a necessary part of our Christian journey. We have found that it is during the most difficult times where the Lord does the most heart work. And now, when we are facing difficult times, we welcome it as a time for the Lord to come into our home and heart to do His work, making us more like Him. Today we want to share with you a prayer for when your family is being stretched.

A Prayer for When Your Family is Being Stretched

Today’s prayer is based on the hope found in Romans 8:28 which says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Heavenly Father we come before you today to thank you for the hope you have given us through your Son, Jesus Christ. We are grateful, Lord for the ability to trust in the name of Jesus and for the forgiveness of our sin.

Lord, we thank you right now for the difficult time we are facing as we know and fully trust in your Word that you are working our circumstance for your good. We are confident in your promises and thankful for the hope of the cross to cling onto as we stand firmly rooted in our faith.

If there are any areas where you need us to change, please reveal them to us. If we have anything that we are unaware of that we need to confess as sin, please make us aware.

God, we ask right now, in your Holy name, that you give us the strength to walk out this challenging season of life as we allow you to fight our battle. Help us to remember who we serve and who has the final authority in all situations.

We are honored to serve such a mighty, faithful, loving, and compassionate God. We love you, Lord.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!

It is our hope that if your family is feeling the stress from a challenging situation that you will be encouraged by the promises, we have in Christ. God’s Word is the final authority in all situations so remember always to find scripture to stand upon when you believe God for a change in your circumstance. Whatever it is that you face today, dear friend, we know that God will turn it around for your (and His) good.

We Love You With the Love of Christ,

Mike & Carlie Kercheval

  1. Praying for your family! Yes, we can relate. 2015 was a year like that! And we’ve learned how God works it all out. Nothing is a surprise to him even when it rocks our world so we rest there and press on and through.

    1. Thank you for the prayer, Laura! Amen! It is so nice to know we can rest in the assurance that God has our back! Have a wonderful week ahead!

  2. We are definitely being stretched as a family at this time! My children have been harmed by their birth father, and we need honestly from them to get them the help that they need and to protect them from further abuse. Please pray that we will be able to rest in HIm and be patient. It is so difficult, and I find my faith frequently waivering.
