Waking Up to the A-ha God Moments in Our Lives

“Mom, I really like this Bible verse. Let me read it to you.”

I had just purchased my middle son his own Bible. Besides the toddler Bible he learned his Bible stories from, he had been using my first Bible until 2-months ago when the chunk of bound scripture-covered scritta paper fell out of the cover it had once been fastened to. Mom’s old, used, hand-me-down Bible never thrilled him like the leather soft, gray, Thinline leather-bound NIV Bible for kids I allowed him to pick out.

It was as if this new Bible that was his and his alone gave him ownership of the words and message held within its leather cover.

He flipped through the Bible, feeling the pages, looking for Jesus’s word to pop off the page in their red letters as if he were on a scavenger hunt.

Even without using words, his joy was apparent and abundant.

The scripture he shared with me was Revelation 1:5, “and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood.”

Knowing that he had not fully read the verse in its context, I asked my son what it was that he liked so much about the verse. Although he has memorized John 3:16, and well knows that Christ died, was buried and rose again on the third day, the verse stood out to him in a way other verses hadn’t.

“I just like that Jesus rose from the grave and rules over all the earth.”

It was like this was his A-ha moment.

Between my son’s revelation and our pastor sharing his A-ha moment as he, trying to beat the after-Christmas blues, dug deeper into the meaning of the 12 Days of Christmas, made me think… what A-ha moments have I had with Christ lately?

God is constantly at work in our lives. Behind the scenes. Even through the toughest, roughest, most unpleasant times in our lives… God is there. Are we wise enough to see His hand in our life? Are we wise enough to say, “A-ha, God! That was you!”

Are we daily diving into scripture, being fed by the word and unveiling another breath-taking truth God is speaking to us? Are we just reading the words to check off a box on our to-do list? Bible reading done… CHECK. Or are we allowing God’s love story, the Bible, to reveal his majesty and glory in a way that stirs an A-ha moment in our soul?

God is constantly at work in our lives. Behind the scenes. Even through the toughest, roughest, most unpleasant times in our lives… God is there. Are we wise enough to see His hand in our life? Are we wise enough to say, “A-ha, God! That was you!”I want my life to be filled with A-ha moments.

I want to be so surprised by how God is at work in me and how Christ reveals himself to me that I can do nothing more than joyful cry out “A-ha!”

I want to feel the triumph over my struggles and the things of this earth so powerfully that I exclaim, “A-ha! The same power that rose Jesus from the dead is alive in me!”

I want to be so acutely aware of the beauty around me that when my eyes gaze upon a magnificent sunset, my soul whispers “A-ha… the heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”

And just as my son found a deeper sense of understanding of Christ’s rule in the book of Revelation, I too want to hear God’s word so loudly spoken to my heart, even when I may not understand the context, that I’m moved to a deeper faith walk.

My friend, my prayer for us is that we will be so overwhelmingly amazed, surprised, and triumph-full in Christ that we can do nothing but with fists of victory raised up in praise, shout “A-ha, God! You are so good!”

Blessings,

Alisha
