People Are Watching

My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty.

Daniel 6:22

Who do you look up to? Why? Whether we know it or not, people are watching us. It might be a friend at school, a teammate, maybe a neighbor, or a family member. And people are not just watching us; people are being influenced by us.

Daniel was a man who loved God. And people noticed. In fact, when a different king in Babylon, Darius, came to power, he was so impressed with Daniel that he put him in charge. But this made the other leaders mad—so mad that they talked Darius into making a new law.

If anyone worshipped a different god, he or she would be thrown into the lions’ den. Like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, Daniel wasn’t buying it. He had no fear—just faith. He didn’t care what anyone did to him; he was going to worship the Lord alone!

But here’s what happened. God was with Daniel. He shut the mouths of the lions. He came to his defense. And best of all, King Darius noticed! When he saw Daniel’s faith and God’s power, he wrote a letter to all the nations that said:

“I issue a decree that in every part of my kingdom people must fear and reverence the God of Daniel. For he is the living God and he endures forever; his kingdom will not be destroyed, his dominion will never end. He rescues and he saves.” (Daniel 6:26–27)

A lot of people were able to hear about the one true God—all because of one faithful person, Daniel.

God just wants us to be faithful. Set apart for Him. He takes care of the rest! Who is watching you? What do they see?

Blessings,
Ruth
