Celebrating Marriage with Your Children

Celebrating Marriage with Your Children

My husband and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary in Santa Barbara.  It was breathtakingly beautiful, warm, and simply delightful. We explored downtown, got lost in the hills, ventured to the beach, walked the pier, and even traveled to a nearby Danish town called Solvang.

We spent three days adventuring and spending quality time together, building memories that will add to the value of our marriage, as well as the foundation of marriage my son will have.  How so?  Because he was with us! That’s right… we decided to take our son with us to celebrate our anniversary, and it was one of the best decisions we ever made.  We love showing our son how to have a thriving marriage and the importance of family.

My husband and I believe it is incredibly beneficial to celebrate marriage in the presence of our child.  We also value dates without him and believe that should happen as well.  However, this post is to remind us parents that it is good for our children to be a part of the celebration because they are a part of us!  And we are influencing their perceptions of marriage every single day.

We are confident that exploring together and talking more in-depth about life and marriage will teach our son how to explore and talk with his wife when the time comes for him to establish a family.

I hope you find this encouraging and see your child(ren) as a gift and never a burden. Start celebrating marriage with your children. If you are preparing a trip or adventure to celebrate your anniversary, consider taking your child(ren) with you and using the opportunity to show them just how important it is to value marriage!
