Spiced Hot Cocoa (Dairy-Free Option)

Spiced Hot Cocoa (dairy-free option)

Some like to ring in the New Year with a glass of sparkling cider, eggnog or even a traditional Wassail. Each is certainly delightful! Yet, our favorite way to toast the New Year is to simply whip up a delicious mug of spiced hot cocoa! It’s the perfect warm and creamy treat to sip on a cold, crisp winter evening.

Snuggling up next to the fire, we love to recount all of the amazing things the Lord has done throughout the year and prayerfully anticipate what He has in store for the new one.

As we raise our mugs in gratitude to God for another year of serving Him, we wish each of you a very Happy and Blessed New Year as well – full of love, joy and peace in the grace of Our Savior Jesus Christ!

Spiced Hot Cocoa (Dairy Free Option)

4 cups milk of your choice (we enjoy almond milk or coconut milk)
3 tbsp unsweetened pure cocoa powder
3 tbsp chocolate chips (if you’re DF, I recommend Enjoy Life, aff.link)
3 tbsp pure maple syrup (or honey)
1/4 tsp sea salt
2 cinnamon sticks

Split the cinnamon sticks in half lengthwise to form four sticks. In a small saucepan, bring milk to a simmer over medium heat. Add 1-2 of the split cinnamon sticks and simmer gently for 5-6 minutes.

Remove cinnamon sticks, rinse and set aside.

Add the cocoa powder, chocolate chips, maple syrup and salt to the hot milk. Whisk well until mixture is thoroughly combined and slightly frothy, about one minute. Divide among four mugs; garnish with a split cinnamon stick.

For an extra special treat, top with a dollop of whipped cream or coconut cream. Cheers!

Special New Year’s Blessings to you and yours,

Kelly at The Nourishing Home
